so....why substack?

a brief overview

If you follow me on social media you’ve probably noticed I keep mentioning Substack in my videos and posts, and there’s a reason for that. It’s honestly become the place where I can really get into what I’m creating and actually share things in a way that feels more direct and personal.

Obviously the biggest part of that is my music. I’ve always wanted a space where I can share demos, covers, and behind-the-scenes stuff without it feeling like I’m just throwing files onto a storefront or fully locking them behind a paywall. Platforms like Bandcamp work fine for audio, and Patreon was an option when I wanted to bring more into the mix but always felt too…..sterile, I guess is an ok word, but Substack feels more direct and open and communal.

It feels like a community space I actually have some ownership over, whereas social media can feel pretty unstable. But this feels like a true home base. Even if I ever move things elsewhere someday (which is unlikey, so don’t worry), the goal is to keep that sense of connection intact.

As for the paywall, I genuinely think the best stuff should stay free. The paid tier is mostly for the deeper dives — older demos, niche material, things that only some people really want to dive into and I kept it cheap so that it doesn’t feel like a barrier. Of course, I’m still learning and figuring out what should go where, but the flexibility I have here means I can easily give you more for free at a moments notice and there’s a lot of comfort in the for me. And hopefully for you too.

Anyway…I’m still learning how to promo this place without feeling gross, because talking about anything that involves money or feels like I’m trying to sell you something never feels good to me (mostly because I didn’t start making music for the money), but I know it’s part of the gig. So bear with me while I figure it out and…uh, yeah….I think that’s it for now!
