Now, I know today is supposed to be cover day, but I fell behind on production so it’ll be late this month, but it’s coming!
Now with that out of the way, let’s talk about this demo! Or at least what I remember about it 😅
The concept of the song is pretty straight forward, it’s about those relationships we get in and at some point say to ourselves “I love them but is their love worth the amount of bullshit they’re putting into my life?” And that’s really it.
I’m most proud of the full “If sweet dreams are really made of these” line in the chorus, just because I think it’s a fun twist on that song, but in this case, it was also a reminder for me to back up my vocal stems better. Because, while I’m sure they’re somewhere (probably), I forgot I had changed that line before I finalized the song so I had to salvage that line from an early demo. Thank god for Live 12’s built-in stem splitter.
Unsurprisingly, this came from a high output time around 2016/2017 over a completely different production that I had made. It wasn’t bad…but it wasn’t great either. Thankfully it was a demo, so none of that really mattered, because it was always meant to be a sort of “here’s a possibility,” type of thing. But recently, as I going back through old stuff, I found this one and really wanted to see it’s true potential.
Now here comes the part where I might lose some of you. This version’s underlying instrumental was made with Suno1 from my original production. However, I really want to stress that this is my real voice straight from the original session overlaid on top. First and foremost I’m a songwriter and a vocalist and you won’t catch me using an AI version of my voice.
Now, I chose to do that because this is a crazy old demo that I always felt had potential but was being let down by production I had given it. It was around the same time I had that thought that I had been playing with the platform to get a feel for what it could do, what the hype (positive and negative) around it was all about, and what I could do with it, and getting a fresh perspective on old demos that, quite frankly, aren’t going anywhere was one of those things.
I’ve got a whole written post about my experiment with Suno coming, including why I’ve decided to start adding generative AI disclaimers to my posts when it’s used, so I won’t go down that path today. If you don’t want to read that when it comes out, that’s fine, just know that I’m fully committed to being transparent about it.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for now! Sorry it got kinda real there at the end, but this was bound to come up sooner or later, and it just sorta got pushed to today because of my lack of time management this past month (oop 😬).
As always, I hope you’re having a great day/night/whenever you’re reading this and I’ll see you around the internet! ✌🏽
Generative AI Disclosure: AI (Suno) was used in the creation of the track to fully replace the underlying instrumental composition, but was not used to alter any vocals or lyrics, or make any structural or melodic changes to the piece.
