White Rabbit

Meditation 013 | Reincarnation | Vol. 02, Issue 04

Hej, hi hello and welcome to 2026!

Just one big thing to note today ant that’s moving forward (and retroactively) I’ll be disclosing the use of any generative AI at the bottom of posts, as well as how it was used, in order to remain fully transparent about things. It doesn’t get used all that often, as you’ll see, but since it is such a loaded topic and the conversations around it are ever changing and ongoing, I feel like it’s best practice to openly and freely disclose when and where it’s used.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s dive down the rabbit hole!

White Rabbit is truly a cover I’ve been trying to nail for years now and for whatever reason I never could land on a version I liked until now. One could speculate that it’s the removal of pressure and expectations since it’s only living here on TEMPLE, but who knows for sure? While the song is originally by Jefferson Airplane, I based this version off of Emilíana Torrini’s cover for the movie Sucker Punch.

Amazingly, this came into existence in about 6 hours. That almost never happens around here these days, but it was a nice change! The basis of the track are those layered breakbeats that really gave it a 90s/00s vibe and I really leaned into it. When I sent the first draft to Amoré (from thishellwithyou.) they said it “gives off 90s vibes, but in a way that doesn’t feel like a shitty rip off…it’s in a way that loves and respects the electronic music of the era.” And that made me tear up a little bit tbh, because I really do love that era, aesthetically and musically.

The bulk of the track is actually made up of drums and huge basses with synths and vocals taking a minimalist, backseat approach this time around. That being said the harmonizer at the start that seamlessly bends between the chords (thanks MPE) is probably one of my favorite parts of the track. Minimalism wins again.

And just to quickly touch on the artwork1 for this one, it’s inspired by the vibes of Gen X Soft Club though I’m not quite sure it matches up with the grittiness of the track.

That’s about it really…there’s not too much else to say. I tracked my vocals on an Avantone CV-12 tube mic, I used an ass load of instances of Output’s Thermal and Soundtoy’s Decapitator, and used Masterchannel to master the track. None of them paid me to mention them, I just thought it was interesting.
