Meditation VII | Holy Being

Meditation 007 | Salt Lake City, UT | Vol. 01, Issue 07

Hej, hi, hello!

Another month, another musical meditation! Also decided to do a name change to fit the theme going on here. RIP to CANIDAZE (kind of, it lives on in the form of DJ mixes on YouTube) and welcome to TEMPLE.

I’ve also committed to the decision that Substack is my new home! So, if you like, you can upgrade your subscription for $5/mo to join SANCTUARY where you’ll get more music and posts that you won’t find anywhere else (ex. remixes, demos, earliest access to new releases, etc.). If you’d like to upgrade just hit the button below (and make sure you’re logged in).

✦ | This month’s photo was taken by Josiah William Gordon in Bolivia

☾ | This month’s piece was written in F minor (kind of…), 4/4 at 110 bpm

So…..this piece got a little dark? But like hear me out, because this photo has very holy/divine being vibes and I’m just saying like, from a story perspective, as a human being seeing something like this would be both beautiful and terrifying. Think the classic “Be not afraid,” line. Like being in this setting and having a person materialize in front of you, or even more concerning waking up in this beautiful place and having no recollection of how you got there. That’s the sonic story I went with.

From a production standpoint, this is A LOT of drones and most of which I didn’t really have any control over. I tweaked parameters here and there but I was largely not in the drivers seat. Which is also why I wrote this song is in kind of in F minor, because I think I may have broken into microtonal territory here maybe…but I’m not a theory expert so I can’t confirm that. What I CAN confirm is the root of the song is F.

There’s also some lovely breathy, reverb drenched vocals for that added divinity feeling, plus a pipe organ buried in there because how can you angels without pipe organs? Like…you can’t. It feels wrong.

Until next time, friends!

Stay happy. Stay puppin’. Stay waggin’.
