No post last month, but it’s all explained down below! Think of this month’s post as that letter your bestie said they sent months ago and got lost in the mail and now it’s finally in your mailbox.
Also! I released a new track called Breathe at the end of last month! If you haven’t checked it out already, be sure to smack that button below and give it a listen!
Hello and greetings from my hotel room bed in the middle of Manhattan, where instead of soaking up the last day of knowledge from the Anti Social Camp I’m sick in bed with what I hope isn’t covid (spoiler: it was). Sorry this month’s issue is a little bit behind, but I’ve been a busy, busy dog attending this year’s Anti Social Camp in NYC which aims to bring music back to New York (among other things) and it’s been a blast. If you’ve haven’t heard of it before, click this link to learn more about it!

This week, I’m pulling from the vault again, BUT literally nobody has heard this one before. Like anywhere, ever. This mini-cover of Suzanne Vega’s absolute ear-worm of a track was originally made for a mini-cover series I started for socials, with the intention of each song exploring a new technique and set of sounds. Unfortunately, I never had the time to really give the project the time it needed, but that’s changing. I’ve made quite a few, but only two other tracks made it out into the world and if you want to hear it you’ll have creep on Instagram or TikTok to find them.
This particular cover was made to play with more analog sounds (think 808s and juicy Moog basses) in a much more limited scope than I’m used to. I really wanted to keep the sound design simple and minimal, then add interest mainly through the use of foley recordings, incremental layering, and more traditional effects such as distortion and bit crushing. I think I did pretty well, but let me know what you think in a comment down below!

Man…ok, listen. I always thought I was a west coast boy, but New York has made me realize I might actually be an east coast girlie. I don’t know, the more I’m in New York the more I fall in love with it and like…this photo I snapped on a random walk (kind of) captures that towering, monolithic, beauty that can only be experienced in a place like NYC. It’s not the vibe for everyone, but if you get it….you get it. And yes, I have shamelessly become a “New York is my favorite place” person. No, I will not apologize let me live my cringe and basic fantasy ok??
